MyList — User Guide

What Is MyList?

If you subscribe to more than a handful of streaming services, you know the problem: you’re having dinner, someone mentions a show you want to watch, and by the time you get to the TV you’ve forgotten what it was — or you remember, but can’t remember which service it’s on.

MyList is your household’s single, shared watchlist for streaming content. Add movies, shows, and specific episodes as you hear about them. When you’re ready to watch, MyList looks up which streaming service has it and sends your Roku straight to that title — no hunting through apps, no guessing.

It also includes a virtual Roku remote, so you can keep browsing your list and control the TV from the same screen.

Getting Started

Signing In

You can sign in with Google, Apple (on device builds), or an email address and password. There’s also a guest mode if you want to try things out without an account — just keep in mind your list won’t be saved if you close the app.

Finding Your Roku

After signing in, MyList scans your home network for Roku devices. If it finds one (or more), it’ll show you a list — just tap the one you want to use. If nothing shows up, make sure your phone is on the same Wi-Fi network as your Roku, then check Settings → Devices to scan again. You can also manage your devices and switch between them anytime from Settings.

One-time Roku Setup

Before MyList can find or control your Roku, one setting needs to be switched on. You only need to do this once per device.

On your Roku, navigate to: Settings → System → Advanced system settings → Control by mobile apps → Network access and set it to Enabled.

This applies to both Roku streaming devices and Roku TVs — the path should be the same, though it may vary slightly depending on your Roku OS version.

Building Your List

Tap the Add tab to search for something to add. Type a title and results will appear as you type.

A few things worth knowing about search:

Saving a Title

Tap a search result to see its details and saving options. You can save it as:

Pick the streaming service you want to watch it on (if it’s available on more than one of your installed services, you’ll get to choose), then tap Save. It’ll show up in your list right away.

Your List

The MyList tab shows everything you’ve saved. You can search by title and filter by media type or service.

Tap any title to open its detail page, where you’ll see:

Watching

Tap Watch Now on any title detail page and MyList will launch that app on your Roku and try to take you straight to that content.

How well this works depends on the service

For most major streaming services — including Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+, Paramount+, Apple TV+, Max, Peacock, and a few others — MyList can launch the app and navigate directly to the specific title, season, or episode you saved. It works well and feels seamless.

For other services, MyList can open the app but can’t navigate further than the home screen. When that happens, a note will appear telling you the title and episode to look for so you can navigate there yourself. It’s a little more work, but you’re still one tap away from being in the right app.

A handful of services in the content directory may not be launchable at all from MyList. In those cases, you’ll need to open the app on your Roku manually.

Watch Now only works at home

MyList communicates with your Roku over your local network, so Watch Now and the remote only work when your phone is connected to your home Wi-Fi. Away from home, your list is fully readable — you can browse, plan, and manage it — but the launch and remote features will be grayed out until you’re back.

The Remote

The Remote tab gives you a virtual Roku remote: D-pad navigation, back, home, play/pause, rewind, and fast-forward.

It works whenever you’re on your home Wi-Fi with an active Roku device selected. It’s handy for navigating after Watch Now drops you in an app, or any time you can’t find the physical remote.

Sharing with Your Household

MyList is designed to be shared. Everyone in your household can add to the same list, see who added what, and use any Roku device the household has set up.

To invite someone:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap Invite Someone
  3. Share the six-character code — it’s good for 15 minutes

To join a household:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap Join a Household
  3. Enter the code someone shared with you

Once you join, your list merges with theirs and stays in sync in real time. Everyone can add, and anyone can remove — it’s a shared space, so it works best with people you trust.

A Few Honest Notes

The content directory isn’t perfect. MyList gets streaming availability information from a third-party content guide that covers a wide range of services. For the major streaming platforms, it’s generally accurate. For niche, regional, or newer services, information may be missing, incomplete, or occasionally out of date. If something doesn’t appear in search or shows the wrong availability, it’s almost always a gap in the underlying directory rather than something wrong with MyList itself.

Deep linking varies by service. Whether MyList can jump you to a specific title depends entirely on whether that streaming app supports it. The major services do; many smaller ones don’t. This isn’t something MyList controls — it’s a capability each streaming app either provides or doesn’t. Where it works, it’s great. Where it doesn’t, you’re still one tap away from being in the right app.

The remote is a convenience, not a replacement. The virtual remote works reliably for basic navigation, but if your Roku or its network connection is having a moment, there may be a short lag. Your physical remote always takes priority.

Tips

MyList is built for Roku. An active Roku device on your home network is required for Watch Now and the remote. Streaming content availability information is provided by a third-party directory and may not reflect real-time changes.
